35mmx45mm Photo: Size, Pixels & Online Maker

A 35mmx45mm photo is 35 mm wide and 45 mm high: 3.5 × 4.5 cm, about 1.38 × 1.77 inches, with a 7:9 aspect ratio. At 300 PPI, the rounded dimensions are 413 × 531 pixels. Choose the correct document before preparing a file.

Prepare a 35mmx45mm photo with a matching preset

Choose your actual country and review the displayed output before uploading. This maker lists existing passport presets with this print-size label; it is not a universal visa editor. Check whether your application permits online preparation, cropping or background changes. Use the required official capture channel when it does not.

35 x 45 mm photo: centimetres, inches and proportions

A 3.5 x 4.5 cm photo describes the same physical rectangle. Read dimensions as width first, then height. The decimal point and the multiplication sign do not change the measurement; the unit does. Keep the portrait orientation when entering a custom crop.

One size, three units

Millimetres: 35 × 45 mm

Set width to 35 mm and height to 45 mm. The complete print must have these outer dimensions when the application specifically asks for this size. Head height is a separate measurement within the frame.

Centimetres: 3.5 × 4.5 cm

Divide millimetres by ten to get centimetres. A request for passport photo 3.5 x 4.5 cm uses this metric size. It does not mean 3.5 × 4.5 inches, which would produce a much larger print.

Inches: approximately 1.38 × 1.77 in

Divide each millimetre measurement by 25.4. These inch values are rounded, so enter 35 × 45 mm directly when your print software supports metric units. A 2 × 2 inch square is a different size and shape.

Preserve the 7:9 crop

The outer frame and the subject must both stay proportional.

Crop before resizing

Where editing is permitted, set a portrait crop ratio of 7:9, position the head and shoulders, and then resize. Forcing a square source into both target dimensions without cropping squeezes the face.

Do not interchange width and height

A 45 × 35 mm landscape image is not equivalent to a 35 × 45 mm portrait. Rotating the file or changing only its orientation metadata does not repair an incorrectly framed head.

How many pixels does a 35mmx45mm photo need?

Millimetres do not determine one universal digital file. For a planned print, calculate pixels = millimetres ÷ 25.4 × PPI for each edge. PPI means image pixels per inch; printer DPI describes ink or toner dots. Editors sometimes label the image-resolution field DPI.

Rounded pixel examples for the same print size

150 PPI: 207 × 266 px

This is a mathematical conversion, not a recommended submission minimum. It contains less image detail than the examples at higher resolution. Always check the receiving authority or print provider before choosing it.

300 PPI: 413 × 531 px

The matching presets in this maker use these rounded dimensions at 300 DPI. Confirm that exact output in the tool. An online application can require more pixels or a different aspect ratio even when its paper route uses 35 × 45 mm.

600 PPI: 827 × 1,063 px

This is another calculated print-resolution example, not an output option offered by this page. A larger pixel count is useful only when the original contains real detail. Enlarging a blurry source cannot recover a sharp face.

Which documents use this size?

A 35mmx45mm photo can match a document’s paper dimensions while failing its background, capture or upload rules. The UK paper route uses this size, but its online route requires at least 600 × 750 px and tells applicants not to crop a device photo themselves. French identity photos use the same outer size but prohibit a white background and require an approved capture provider.

Prepare the photo without changing your appearance

Use this sequence only when the named application permits a user-prepared file. If it requires an original, an approved photographer, a photo code or direct electronic capture, follow that route instead of editing a print-size file.

Four checks before submission

1

Start with the original

Keep an untouched camera file. Use a sharp, front-facing portrait with space around the head and shoulders, a natural expression and even light. Avoid screenshots, messaging-app thumbnails and beauty filters. A phone camera can provide a source image; the authority decides whether that capture route is accepted.

2

Choose the named country and document

The maker reads its existing preset catalog and shows only matching passport-size choices here. Check the selected output rather than assuming every country uses the same white background. Visa, ID and online passport routes may need another preset or an official capture service.

3

Inspect the preview at full size

Check the face, hairline, edges, eye visibility and crop without stretching. The outer 7:9 frame does not set the official head-height range. Reject a result that removes identity details, introduces an artificial background edge or changes your natural appearance. A preview is a technical preparation step, not government verification.

4

Check the exact final deliverable

Compare the downloaded JPG with the destination’s pixel dimensions, file format and KB or MB limit. Use the actual final file, not a screenshot of the preview. For paper submissions, also confirm print size, head measurement, paper and required quantity. Keep a spare original in case the receiving office asks for a new capture.

A correct rectangle can still contain an unsuitable photo

Compare the illustrative poses and defects below. They demonstrate frontal framing, tilt, shadow, glare, low detail and excessive smoothing. They are AI illustrations, not measured 35 × 45 mm files, official accepted examples or real before-and-after processing results.

Review framing and visibility

Keep the full required head area visible and the person facing the camera. Measure head height using the country’s definition, which may specify chin-to-crown or a different reference.

Retake defects instead of disguising them

Retake blurred, heavily shadowed or obstructed photos. Do not stretch the face, generate missing facial detail or treat background replacement as permission to submit an edited image.
